Granite Broadcasting Corporation Appoints David T. Bangura President & General Manager of WMYD-TV in Detroit

(DETROIT, MI) – July 30, 2009 – Granite Broadcasting Corporation today announced the appointment of David T. Bangura as President and General Manager of WMYD-TV in Detroit, the nation's 11th largest television market, effective immediately.

Having earned his stripes in the Detroit market with more than 10 years of experience, David was most recently Director of Sales for WMYD, and has been recognized multiple times for his markedly positive impact on the success of the sales department and the station overall.

In making this announcement, Granite Broadcasting Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer John Deushane said, “David’s energy and focus have played a large part in his success as a salesperson and manager. David began his career as an Account Executive for WJBK-TV, Detroit’s Fox affiliate, a position he held from 1994 to 1999. From there, David made his first move to become Local Sales Manager at WDWB-TV, the Granite-owned WB affiliate, before being quickly promoted to National Sales Manager in 2001. Two years later, in September 2003, David left WDWB for the General Sales Manager position at the Viacom-owned UPN/CBS duopoly in the market (WKBW/WWJ). He then returned to WDWB as Director of Sales in February 2005. Notably, David helped navigate the station’s transition from the WB affiliate to its current status as WMYD, the My Network TV affiliate. David earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Wayne State University in Detroit.
