FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – June 10, 2010 – Granite Broadcasting Corporation today announced the company’s initiatives to support and promote the USA Bid Committee, Inc., a non-profit organization created to prepare a successful application to host the FIFA World Cup™ in the U.S. on behalf of the United States Soccer Federation. The Company and its portfolio of television broadcast stations will play a role in promoting the American bid during the final countdown to the December decision through public service announcements, online and mobile promotions and prominent news coverage.

As a show of support, Granite Broadcasting stations will launch an on-air, online and mobile public service advertisement campaign intended to provide avid fans with information on how to involve themselves in the bid effort. Individual Granite stations Web sites will also house access to the committee’s official Web site, www.goUSABid.com – the nerve center for all USA Bid Committee initiatives and communication leading up to FIFA’s final decision. Moreover, stations will generate extensive news coverage for the bid, exposing a broad audience to the movement at large. Granite Broadcasting expects to commence its support efforts to coincide with the first match for the U.S. Men’s National Team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ against England on June 12th.

“Soccer is exploding in popularity in the United States and our national team is a symbol of tremendous pride and inspiration for our country. Granite is looking forward to lending its resources to generate support in our nation’s efforts to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup, especially as anticipation for the quadrennial event soars for this summer’s games. A focal point of the USA Bid Committee’s campaign is an online petition supporting the bid, so soccer fans, please take a moment to sign the petition, spread the word, and grow the movement,” said Peter Markham, Chairman & CEO, Granite Broadcasting Corp. “The World Cup encourages a sense of unity and passion – the same spirit we strive to deliver at our stations serving local communities across America.”

The last time the U.S. hosted the tournament was in 1994 for the 15th staging of the FIFA World Cup. As the highest-attended single sport event in U.S. history, matches took place in nine cities across the nation and shattered an attendee record that had stood since 1950. Currently, the U.S., Australia, England, The Netherlands-Belgium, Portugal-Spain and Russia are looking to host either the 2018 or 2022 competition. Japan, South Korea and Qatar are bidding for 2022. FIFA's executive committee will select the 2018 and 2022 hosts in a vote on December 2nd.

The FIFA World Cup™ is an international association football competition contested every four years by the national teams of the members of FIFA, the sport's global governing body. The current format of the tournament involves 32 teams competing for the title in the World Cup Finals at venues within the host nation over a period of about a month. Cumulative television viewership from the 2006 event in Germany was estimated at 26 billion. The next World Cup will be held in South Africa, between June 11 and July 11, 2010, and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.
